Pantothenic acid

Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for many metabolic processes in the body. It is found in a wide variety of foods, including meat, dairy products, eggs, whole grains, and vegetables.

Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A, which is necessary for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. It is also involved in the production of hormones and cholesterol in the body. Pantothenic acid is important for healthy skin, hair, and eyes, as well as for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

Deficiency of pantothenic acid is rare, as it is found in many foods, and the body can store it for some time. However, symptoms of deficiency may include fatigue, depression, irritability, digestive problems, and skin problems.

Pantothenic acid supplements are available and are sometimes used to treat acne, although evidence for their effectiveness is limited. Some research suggests that pantothenic acid supplements may also be beneficial for improving athletic performance, reducing stress, and improving mental function, although more research is needed in these areas.
